Because the most effective disaster investment happens before emergencies strike, not after.
The climate crisis is actually a set of compounding crises: bushfires, floods, heatwaves and droughts are becoming more frequent and severe, homes are becoming uninsurable, and the people hit hardest are those with the least capacity to adapt and recover.
The most effective disaster investment happens before emergencies strike, not after – and supports the vital role of community leadership.
Victoria must invest in community-led resilience measures. And all resilience-building measures must be underpinned by meaningful action to reduce emissions, addressing the root cause of escalating climate disasters.
We're calling on all parties and candidates to:
- Build community resilience and empower communities to adapt to climate change
- Ensure Victoria’s homes are fit for a changing climate
- Support people hardest hit by disasters
- Reduce emissions
